The project will be implemented in the Wilayat of Barka, for a distance of up to 3 km, to the Wilayat of Mussanah, to improve the general appearance of the main streets in the governorate.
In its first phase, the project includes the implementation of the work of removing degraded trees, especially those that are dead or have lost their aesthetic value, in addition to preparing sites and improving the general landscape in preparation for modern afforestation works.
The second phase focuses on the cultivation of various shade trees, such as Salsola, Bougainvillea, and Acacia, which can adapt to the local environment and give an aesthetic value and lively character to the street, in addition to offering shade and improving air quality.
After the completion of the planting of the shade trees, an additional phase will be launched to enhance the aesthetic aspect, including the implementation of plant fences and the planting of cosmetic shrubs, which contribute to creating an integrated visual harmony and enhance the beauty of the road giving it a modern and sustainable character.
According to the Municipality, "Every tree is not suitable for every road, and incorrect planting can cause obstructed visibility, traffic hazards, and higher resource consumption."
The project will include the removal of existing palm trees, planting replacement trees, and the complete reorganization of the landscaping.
The forestation will cover 14 km on both sides, with 5 meters for landscaping, 1,300 palm trees to be removed, and 1,500 new plants will be planted.
The street is expected to see a major makeover in the coming decades with the implementation of the Downtown Al Khuwair Project and the Muscat Metro.
